Teaching Your Kids Healthy Eating Habits with Plain Popcorn

Kids love popcorn, and who doesn’t? It’s one of the healthier snacks to give your kids compared to, let’s say a bag of potato chips or a candy bar. While the latter may be more appealing to kids, there are ways that they can eat healthy and still actually enjoy what they’re eating. Plain popcorn is a good place to start.

However, you can turn plain popcorn into a fun and tasty snack in a matter of seconds, especially if you buy it already popped. Your kids will love the variation of flavors and you can even turn it into an affair where they help put their own seasonings on! Honey, BBQ, even butter popcorn can be a real treat.

Salty or sweet, spicy or savory – popcorn can still be a healthy snack for your kids if you monitor the amount of toppings. For a sweet-tooth, drizzle honey on prepared plain popcorn for a sweet treat. This one can be a bit messy, so be prepared to clean hands! Also, chocolate, butterscotch or caramel toppings can be added. Simply put chocolate chips, butterscotch chips or caramel chips in the microwave for a few seconds to melt. For savory or spicy tastes, try sprinkling ranch dressing mix over fresh popcorn – yummy – or taco seasoning for a spicy change. Make it “Italiano” by sprinkling garlic powder with grated parmesan cheese. The possibilities are endless, but the main idea is showing your kids how you take something healthy, like plain popcorn and still make it taste great without sacrificing the heath benefits.
